Workshop: “The Power of Everyday Decisions: A New Vision for Sustainability”

On 26 May 2026, E-OilÉ will hold its M12 Workshop. This event is bringing together scientists, industry experts and civil society organisations to explore how everyday packaging choices affect human health and the planet.

From 11:00 to 12:30 the discussion will center the idea that informed consumers make better decisions, and better decisions drive better packaging. Because the packaging we use every day is not a neutral choice, and understanding what it is made of, how safe it is, and what happens when we throw it away matters.

Programme

The workshop will open with welcoming remarks from Madeleine Costa (HOLOSS), followed by an introduction to the E-OilÉ project by María José Suárez (GAIKER).

The technical sessions will cover two critical dimensions of packaging safety. Bastiaan Schupp (DG SANTE) will address safety considerations in food-contact plastic packaging, while Maria Westerbos from the Plastic Soup Foundation will focus on the risks associated with cosmetic-contact plastic packaging, bringing the civil society perspective to the conversation.
After a short coffee break, Quim Nuñez and Alberto Fragapane from NOVAMONT & OIMO will present E-OilÉ’s biodegradable polymer solutions. Malgorazata Golebiewska (DG Environment) will then decode the credibility of sustainability labels and by doing so, helping attendees navigate an increasingly complex landscape of green claims.
The session will close with a roundtable discussion open to all participants, followed by closing remarks from Madeleine Costa (HOLOSS).
