Biodegradable by Design Sustainable by Nature
Sustainable and biodegradable monodose packaging for oily products
Shaping the Future of Sustainable Packaging
A combination of novel materials using biodegradable materials based on biopolyesters and polysaccharides, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced modelling mechanisms, should become E-OilÉs ambition of replacing conventional fossil-based plastics like (PE*, PP*, PET*) with circular, sustainable and cost-effective packaging that meets the rigorous environmental standards while maintaining product quality and user convenience.
E-OilÉ aims to create safe and sustainable biodegradable packaging solutions made with biodegradable materials based on novel biopolyesters and polysaccharides, engineered to enhance barrier and mechanical performance for the packaging of highly demanding oily products
Biodegradability of the packaging solutions will be assisted by the creation of digital twin, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced modelling mechanisms for a more accurate prediction of the degradation processes.
E-OilE will assess the biodegradation of the developed packaging products by performing biodegradability in compost and soil, freshwater and marine conditions.
From Lab to Market: Scaling Sustainable Packaging Solutions
Real-World Testing
Through real-world testing in four use cases—olive oil, oily sauces, body oil, and facial serum — E-OilÉ will demonstrate scalable solutions at Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL 7*). The project also integrates life cycle assessment (LCA), Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) principles, and stakeholder engagement to ensure environmental, economic, and social sustainability.
E-OilÉ is aligned with the European Green Deal and 2030 climate goals
- Reducing plastic waste
- Promoting circularity, and driving innovation in the packaging industry.
- Creating demand for a more sustainable consumption and production.
