World Creativity and Innovation Day – How E-OilÉ is innovating?

On World Creativity and Innovation Day, we recognise the role of innovation in improving our daily lives and addressing global challenges.

In the context of packaging, innovation is not only about creating new materials, but also about rethinking existing systems. For example, small, single-use packaging formats, are widely used for convenience and hygiene, yet they remain difficult to recycle and contribute significantly to plastic waste.

Innovation through rethinking design and materials

But E-OilÉ asked the question? How can we tackle this issue? By innovating. The Horizon Europe project is exploring how biodegradable and bio-based materials can replace conventional fossil-based plastics in these demanding applications.

This includes:

  • Designing materials that meet functional requirements for oily products
  • Ensuring safety for both users and ecosystems
  • Considering end-of-life pathways, such as biodegradation in relevant environments
  • Aligning with European sustainability and regulatory frameworks

From ideas to impact

Innovation in E-OilÉ goes beyond material development. It involves integrating scientific research, digital tools, and environmental assessment to create solutions that are not only technically viable but also relevant for real-world applications.

By addressing packaging from a circular and system-level perspective, E-OilÉ contributes to a broader transition toward more sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Celebrating innovation that makes a difference

World Creativity and Innovation Day is an opportunity to reflect on how innovation can drive positive change. In the case of E-OilÉ, this means helping shift the perception of small packaging — from a source of environmental concern to an opportunity for sustainable transformation.

Because meaningful innovation is not only about new ideas, but about creating solutions that benefit both people and the planet.
