E-OilÉ at ILSI Europe Symposium 2026
E-OilÉ coordinator Maria José Suárez (GAIKER) presented the project at the ILSI Europe Symposium, held in Brussels on 15–16 June 2026. E-OilÉ partner ILSI Europe organised the event in its 40th anniversary year. It brought together experts from academia, industry and the public sector to discuss food safety, nutrition and sustainability.
Maria José spoke in the session “Food Contact Materials: Advancing Safety and Circularity”, where E-OilÉ served as a concrete case study. Her talk focused on food safety: replacing fossil-based plastics in monodose packaging for oily products also means making sure the new biodegradable materials are safe for contact with food, in line with the project’s Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach.
Other speakers in the session discussed how to assess non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) in food contact materials. They also covered the new safety questions raised by packaging recyclability.
